The DVD says:

It's a small woodsy Oregon town, a group of friends - sensitive Gordie (Wil Wheaton), tough guy Chris (River Phoenix), flamboyant Teddy (Corey Feldman), and scaredy-cat Vern (Jerry O'Connell) - are in search of a missing teenager's body. Wanting to be heroes in each other's and their hometown's eyes, they set out on an unforgettable two-day trek that turns into an odyssey of self-discovery. They sneak smokes, tell tall tales, cuss 'cause it's cool and band together when the going gets tough. When they encounter the town's knife-wielding hoods who are also after the body, the boys discover a strength they never knew they had. Stand By Me is a rare and special film about friendship and the indelible experiences of growing up. Filled with humour and suspense, it is based on the novella 'The Body' by Stephen King.

My Opinion:

Based on the Stephen King Novella, but this isn't really a horror movie. It's a feel good movie about a bunch of young americans growing up in a small town. Full of fantastic moments it will keep you watching till the end - Lard Arse is a killer! Okay, there's no blood and guts, but then that's not what makes a great film. All four of the youngsters went on to be famous in their own right - Wil Wheaton (Star Trek: TNG), Rive Phoenix (My Own Private Idaho), Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys, Licence To Drive), Jerry O'Connell (Sliders - Yes, that's the little fat kid!). The DVD has a lovely selection of extras which top off a fantastic DVD.
