The DVD says:

The Driller Killer is one of the most notorious films ever. It almost single-handedly spawned the media "video nasty" hysteria of 1984 and the introduction of the video recordings act. It is also the film that launched the career and reputation of critically acclaimed director, Abel Ferrara. Away from the hysteria, The Driller Killer is a powerful and compelling study of one man's descent into madness and violence. Reno is a struggling artist close to breaking point. The loud punk band in the flat next door practices for 24 hours a day. His debts are mounting. He needs to sell his new painting to pay the overdue rent on the shabby New York apartment he shares with his girlfriend and her spaced-out lesbian lover. Despite the desperate need for cash, Reno will not admit that he has completed the painting. It becomes an obsession. In his troubled mind the picture triggers a violence he cannot contain...

My Opinion:

Very disappointing. At the start of the movie it states that you should play this film loud. This is because the soundtrack quality is awful. Okay, it's an old film, but they can do wonders with technology nowadays. The picture quality is also the worst I've seen on DVD. Even if the quality of the sound and picture was better, I didn't enjoy the movie (I'll probably get slated for saying this!). I felt it was too slow to get going and could not see a reason for it being banned. Perhaps I'm too desensitised to violence now...
